Butcher and Blackbird - A Light Bite Review

You know, I am more of a fantasy book reader. I love to be transported to a world that isn't ours and delve into my favourite thing 'escapism.' I saw this book suggestion as per, in the TikTok realm of BookTok and hidden in the comments. It is not something I would typically pick up, but I was in the mood for something different.

If you like to read, then I am sure you understand what it is like when you need a break from reading your usual categories - This was my pick.

In short form this book is about:

2 murderers that kill bad people

No, they are not the police

In fact, the police are looking for them

One is a Chef

The other is a Data Scientist

You may be wondering 'Leeonie, are you okay?' and the answer is simply - yes, well kind of.

We are introduced to the characters of this book Solane and Rowan of which they start a yearly competition to kill someone, the first person to kill them wins for that year. There is more to this plot but I don't want to ruin it for anyone.

I don't think I will read it again, purely for the dinner scene (I will not explain any further, read at your own risk) but I did enjoy this book. With Dual POV's you get a well rounded insight into both characters' emotions and thought processes. You learn of their history and why they are the way they are, and you end up sympathising with them.

It was a light-dark read for me, I will recommend it for people who are looking for something different. But I don't think this genre is for me. I don't enjoy thrillers and feeling as though I need to close the book because something bad is going to happen.

I give this book a 7/10
